 - - - - - - - - - - - - - Awful review By Sharee (Australian only release tour special) Here's my little review of one of the * best * Hole singles ever released... First of all, the 12-page booklet that comes with this cd is awesome, unbelievable. When you open the case there's a picture of Courtney on stage, it sot from behind her and there's an aura of light around her, which is in the shape of a love heart (sort of)... Spooky. Then there two pages for each band member as well as group shots, a majority of which where taken by photographer extraordinare Melissa Auf der Maur. Okay, this single has 6 tracks on it, 4 recorded live at Melbourne's Big Day Out, with number six a remix (oh god, what the hell is going on here guys?) of Malibu.Number 1: Awful (album version) When I first heard Celebrity Skin I'll admit that 'Awful' wasn't exactly up their on the list of my fav's but when I heard it live it was fucking brutal. That's number one out of the way anyway, the album version of Awful. Pretty On The Inside (live at the Melbourne BDO 1999) Courtney sang this with such painful perfectness that, I don't know. The sound quality is brilliant (thanks to radio station Triple J) and Courtney's voice is so raspy and cruel that it just blows you away. Fucking awesome. Heaven Tonight (live at the Melbourne BDO 1999) This is such a catchy song it's amazing. Sung live Courtney seems so full of energy and happiness, it's great. Awful (live at Melbourne's BDO 1999) There is definitely something missing from the album version of this song. I don't have a clue what it is but there's something. The way Courtney changes the lyrics (what a surprise) to 'Your ripe, for the fucking, man it's awful' totally brings this song to life. Brilliant! Northern Star (Live at the Melbourne BDO 1999) So perfect. It's all acoustic, just Courtney, Eric and the silent audience. I can't describe how this song makes you feel. Depressed? Sad? Uplifted? I don't know. Not a note was missed and I guarantee tears will flow with this track. Malibu (club remix) Oh puh-lease. I know a lot of people out there are gonna be jumping up and down by me saying this, but this is a pathetic attempt at a remix. You know why? Cause this is Hole! You can't remix a fucken Hole song! Jesus, I had to turn the cd off when I heard Courtney's voice all turned about with that bass crap ringing out...I have to ask... WHY??? - - - - - - - - - - - - - |
