Pretty On the Inside review
By In Utero Goddess

This was Hole 1st official released album, and it also had the help to be produced by Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon. Now I am not going to include any facts or whatnot, just a plan out review and my opinion.
The album 1st song " Teenage Whore" starts out with this runty feeling that makes you feel all dirty inside. Her (Courtney Love, vocals) distorted rasped out voice, fits so well with these thrown together guitar riffs, its just like magic. The 1st line, "When I was a teenage whore" just introduces you to the entire idea of this album, of imagery and irony in a broken fuzzy picture way. You really want to see this band live.
Each song has this special weird add on too it, weigher its the band talking, Courtney screaming or the radio playing, you know this album was just not thrown together, it had ideas!
I would defiantly say this is a revolutionary album with songs like "Garbage Man" having this switch on and off song set rotation to it, to simple songs with beautiful lyrics like "Good Sister, Bad Sister".
I think this is one of the best lyrical organized albums by Hole. You can tell they had something to say, which i got from it was some kind of revaluation wanted. If not an all girl one like Courtney somewhat tries to play out, one for women in rock and roll, and one to clear the path for fellow women musicians to get out there and scream like me too!
Further into the album like songs like "Sassy" & "Star Belly" you can tell how the band plays you into another far off world, by this sort of repeated and detailed guitar playing, and repetitive lyrics working its way to a climax.
The album is gorgeously ended by "Pretty On The Inside" a song that basically says "Hey if you did not get what we are saying it before, here it is again right in your face!"
Artwork also is a plus when and if you decide to purchase this album, for the 1st time. Collage and 'zine looking booklet provides some of the lyrics and a "riot girl" feel.
I would defiantly recommend this album out to any girl, just to see if they can take the heat of this. It's one of those albums where you cannot stand it, or you love it like your oldest baby doll.
