LOVE LETTERS

QUICK-TEMPERED ROCKER Courtney Love may have something new to scream about. Writer Michael Hornburg, a self-described former lover of the Hole frontwoman, has penned a novel about the early '80s grunge scene. The soon-to-be-released book, Bongwater (Grove Press), features a foul-tempered, dirty blond wannabe rock star named - Courtney. Hornburg, who hasn't talked to Love in five years, says this Courtney (who gulps drugs, burns down a house, and chops off a doll's head) is definitely fiction. "There may be parts of Courtney [Love] in the character," he admits. "There are definitely parts of my wife [writer Darcey Steinke] in the character. The people who were there will recognize the characters, but the book's not trying to be an exposé of anything." Love's publicist says the singer hasn't read the book and has no comment. Yet.
