COURTNEY LOVE SQUEEZES ORANGE FOR $27,000

As any self-respecting rocker will tell you, you've gotta fight for your right... to stage dive! Riot grrrl-cum-actress-cum-disappointed Oscar-hopeful Courtney Love wants Florida's Orange County to pay the $27,000 in legal fees she racked up stemming from an incident in which she punched two fans at an Orlando nightclub in early 1995. Love, who as singer of the band Hole would often dive into a groping sea of clammy teenage hands, defended her right to get rough with the boys. The judge in the case agreed with her, saying the crybabies she punched were not exposed to any more violence than a reasonable person should expect at a grunge-rock concert. A good part of the $27,000 in fees she accrued was to pay a psychiatrist to listen to a Hole album, watch one of its videos, and read a Vanity Fair profile of her. (Hey, we did all that and all we got was a dirty feeling.) The Assistant County Attorney for Orange County says that expert witnesses and private investigators are not part of what he considers reasonable court costs, and that they should not have to pay. Love's people have prepared an invoice (they tastefully omitted a thirty-eight-dollar bill for her limousine ride to court), and the court will consider the case on April 1.
