Process / Method
1: Open a 'New Project' in Maya 5
2: Set up the 3D plane to the desired angle
3: From the menu, go to 'Create' > 'Text' and click on the box next to it
4: When the text dialog box appears...
a: Enter a word in the text field
    b: Choose a Font
    c: Select 'Curves'
    d: Click 'Create'
5: Some text will appear on the perspective stage. From the menu, go to 'Window' > 'Attribute Editor'
6: Select all the text and press CTRL + D
7: You now have two text layers placed on top of each other. To translate (move) one of the layers, a value of -7 can be used in the translate Z window in the Attribute Editor.
8: Now the two layers have to be lofted -- creating a surface that extends from one curve to another. Select the two outer curves of the first letter of the word using the select tool and holding down the SHIFT key.
9: Select the 'Loft' tool in the 'Surfaces' tool shelf. Repeat for each letter of the word.
10: Now the front and back of the letters have to be capped. Highlighting only the outside curve of the letter, select the 'Planar' tool from the 'Surfaces' tool shelf. Repeat for each letter of the word until complete.
