DEFINITIONS

There are seven exercise expressions you will need to know in order to follow the workouts. They are: exercise, repetition, set, rest, routine, workout, and resistance.

Exercise is a given movement for a specific muscle, designed to cause that muscle to grow and become stronger.

Repetition is one complete movement of an exercise, from start, to midpoint, to finish.

Set is a specified number of repetitions of an exercise performed without a rest.

Rest is a pause between sets or exercises.

Routine is the specific combination of exercises prescribed for a given body part.

Workout includes all of the exercises to be performed on a given day. (The term 'workout' can also be used to describe the overall exercise program.)

Resistance refers to the heaviness of the weight used in a given exercise.
