My second interpretation is based on what I "feel is happening" within the composition. The linear shapes in "Untitled" suggest to me that a bunch of people are standing together in a room... almost as if they are a crowd at an art show admiring Mitchell’s work. They are bodies. It can also be seen that there is some very hectic energy amidst the people. They are chatting, mingling, grouping, and wandering. There is energy and chaos among the figures' feet because they are moving around the room. Their shoes are blue and their friction with the floor is making some noise. This can be suggested in the lower half of the painting in which there are random, violent brush strokes in deep blue. There is a force of singularity among the people in this room – this is implied by a single slash of yellow in the center of the painting. Is this shape a representation of Joan? Is she being surrounded by her peers at a show? Or are the shapes merely an abstract representation of chaotic and frenzy-like energy?
